Republican Pact with Devil: California--Bargaining Tool

You don't have to be a psychic to figure out that there is something rotten in the state of California and that George Bush and the Republican Party are causing the stink.

Let's go back to 1992 when Bill Clinton was elected president. California turned out to be one of Bill's favorites. We'd voted for him in the elections against George I and he was willing to help the 6th largest economy in the world as well as the most vote rich state. But the Republicans were enraged when he won the election and broke their oligarchic grip on power. They were passionate about sabotaging his efforts and political possibilities in California by making sure that former California governor, the mean-spirited Pete Wilson, would make it difficult for Californians to receive Clinton's largesse. I remember the numerous incidents of Wilson holding up the dispersal of disaster relief funds, for example, just to punish Clinton for winning so handily here, and hoping Californians would blame him for their disaster relief problems, souring them on the popular president in time for the 1996 election.

The Republicans cynical plan to disrupt Clinton's popularity in California, however, didn't work in 1996 and in 1998, when Gray Davis was elected we benefited from having a Democratic governor and president. The economy was sound and money was rolling in. Two years later, Bush was presented with the White House and we've been used as a bargaining tool ever since:

Dick Cheney:  We hand you California and you give us the rest of the world to play with.

Satan: Let's make a deal.

So the Republicans had to get California out of the Democrat's column and into the Devil's grasp. It wasn't that hard with Bush in the White House. Making California the Devil's plaything started with the deregulation of the energy industry.

The power outages in California started in 2000 while Clinton was still in office. He imposed price caps on the electricity, however, and banned Enron from the market. Bush got in and overturned Clinton's executive order, allowing Enron, Reliant and TXU to rape and plunder California again with fake power shortages, and exorbitant prices for energy.

Deregulation of California's energy was instituted during Pete Wilson's watch, of course, but the Republicans set up the Democrat Davis to be excoriated for the energy crisis even though Davis, according to journalist Greg Palast's in his article, Power Outrage traced to Dim Bulb in White House, was the "only governor with the cojones to stand up to the electricity price fixers. Unlike Arnold Schwarzenneger, Gray Davis stood alone against the bad guys without using a body double. Davis called Reliant Corp of Houston a pack of pirates--and now he'll walk the plank for daring to stand up to the Texas marauders."

Kenneth Lay and his Enron bribes to the Bush's 2000 presidential campaign got the disgraced corporation a big bang for its bucks. Dick Cheney met with the energy producers right after the Bush administration took over in 2001 and they all agreed that deregulation in California was the means of killing several birds with one stone. Not only could they steal large profits for themselves, but they could pay California back for voting for Gore in the election and use the energy crisis to help defeat Davis at the polls in 2002.

Arnold Schwartzenegger may have been a possible Republican choice for governor way back in 2001 when Kenneth Lay of Enron reportedly met with him and Riordan in a secret May meeting after the waves of power outages began. Schwartzenegger claimed recently not to have remembered the meeting, but you'd think he would have total recall of a get together with hated Kenny boy Lay. I mean, why would the head of Enron be interested in a Viennese body builder? I think Lay was sizing Riordan and Arnold up to see if either of them would support his desire to continue with deregulation in California so he and Enron could plunder our state further if either of them was elected governor in 2002.

But much to the Republican's distress Davis outwitted them and won the election. Instead of Swartzenegger, Bush and his ilk supported former L.A. mayor, Richard Riordan, because in liberal California, a moderate Republican would be most likely to win. However, the hapless right-winger Bill Simon won the primaries, due to campaign tactics from the Davis camp that turned the Republicans against Riordan, and then Davis went on to defeat Simon.

Despite winning in 2002 Davis was already in trouble due to his handling of the energy crisis brought on by the Republicans. With Bush destroying the U.S. economy with his tax cut and pushing almost all of the states into near bankruptcy, Davis was also blamed for the problematic California economy.

After a lame Republican and self-styled anti-tax activist named Ted Costa tried but failed to light a fire under the recall petition that he was circulating, Representative Darrell Issa, a self-styled dumbo from Vista Ca, who wanted to be governor, funded the recall with his own money. Then we know that after Swartzenegger jumped into the race, eclipsing Issa, he wept and resigned from the race. The Republicans will eat their own, and Issa was obviously used for his money and then discarded as soon as the recall passed muster.

The reason Swartzenegger decided to run and Riordan didn't may be explained by a Robert Novak column in the Chicago Sun Times. According to Novak, Swartzenegger met with his old friend Riordan the weekend before his announcement on the  Tonight show to support the former mayor for governor. Arnold was disturbed by what he found. According to Novak's sources,"Riordan seemed so confused and disorganized he could not possibly be elected governor." Therefore, Arnold decided that he had no choice but to run himself, despite having no experience in political office and no understanding of the complexities and excruciating pitfalls of California government.

To secure their present dictatorship Bush and the Republicans must win California in 2004. They think that a moderate neophyte Republican Governor, like Schwartzenegger, will help their cause, so once more they are trying to steal an election. Have they no shame?

Despite the bad tidings of Davis possibly being removed from office, I believe that arrogance has finally made the Republican Party overplay their hand. As I've mentioned many times in my diary, Saturn brings the high, low. Remember, it will soon be strongly aspecting Bush's chart, as well as horoscopes of the Republican Party and the U.S., just like it did during Watergate, 30 years ago. The Republicans and Bush have created so much bad karma, Saturn has its work cut out for it. But it will always somberly oblige those that won't heed its warnings.

If Schwartzenegger does become governor, I predict he won't remain very long in that office. Not only does he have two aspects now for self-delusion: Transiting Saturn square birth chart Neptune (karma and reality bump up against fantasy and delusion), Transiting Neptune as mentioned in a previous diary entry, is opposing natal Saturn conjunct Pluto. Further, the progressed MC (career and public role) is squared (blocked) by the limitation and pain of progressed Saturn. In 2004, the transiting Pluto will be opposing Mars for almost the entire year. This is a dangerous aspect, which could bring health problems and power struggles in his working environment, and create situations where his explosive temper (Mars conjunct Uranus) could be released or he could attract violence, becoming another victim of the Kennedy curse. If this isn't bad enough, transiting Saturn, which is now lurking in his 12th house is setting him up for a fall when it moves into the First House of the personality in July of 2004. Looking at his present and future cycles, I'm beginning to feel sorry for him. He has no idea what he's getting into.

The Republican Party has made a big mistake in trying to use California as its bargaining tool. Once the door is thrown open on their sordid dealings, evil will run away from the light. The Republicans will then be bereft of their primary support.
