Draft Darrell Issa, Make Him Pay

"Their talk was the talk of sordid buccaneers: it was reckless without hardihood, greedy without audacity, and cruel without courage; there was not an atom of foresight... in the whole batch of them, and they did not seem aware these things are wanted for the work of the world." Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness

I'm proposing that Darrell Issa, the rich California congressman that funded the Recall petition against Governor Davis, who gathered the signatures of only 12% of the eligible voters, be made to pay the outrageous costs of holding the recall election. If he wants to be Governor, make him pay for it. As a taxpayer, I don't want to foot the costs. I don't want to recall the governor. As I mentioned in an earlier column, the most serious charge you can level against Gray Davis is that he's dull, boring, and controlling. Further, Issa should put up the money to make up for the dismal BBB bond rating that the State of California has now due to his election shenanigans. The state is in deep do do and it's not the fault of Davis. We can lay almost all the blame on Bush.

It was Dick Cheney who approved of the energy companies gouging the state, in order to pay us back for voting for Gore and rewarding the energy producers for their campaign contributions. Forty-six out of 50 states are insolvent and the federal government, due to Bush's tax cuts and the recession that continues adnauseum because he won't do anything about it, no longer has the funds to assist the states. When I told Psychic Chuck about my desire to make Issa pay for the recall election, he liked the idea and suggested that Issa also be drafted into the army, sent to Iraq and put on latrine duty. Issa was in favor of the war, of course, so why not kill two birds with one stone? Make him pay and get him out of here.

By the way, nobody in his or her right mind wants a car thief for governor. Paul Brennan in his article, "Total Recall, Darrell Issa's Teeny Weapon," for ocweekly.com quotes Retired 1st Sergeant Jay Bergey who remembers Issa very well from a run-in with him in 1971. "That kid stole my car. I confronted Issa...I got in his face and threatened to kill him, and magically my car reappeared the next day." If you want to read an excellent but funny article on the recall try Bill Maher's, Recalls are for Cars Not California Governors

Today in the Fresh Choice restaurant I heard yet another stupid American extol the virtues of Arnold Swartzenegger. A half hour later, another man came up to the Viennese wrestler's supporter and said, "I thought Arnold decided against running." The other fellow replied with some sort of meatheaded gibberish and the second man said, "Well maybe he'll be able to "terminate" the deficit. I really wanted to say, "Not until Bush vacates the White House, you dumbo."

Arnold is not a good choice for governor either. How about Grant Levi's description of Arnold's Sun in Leo, Moon in Capricorn in Heaven Knows What, "you can appear passionate and ardent in love, but this merely is one expression of your generalized intensity and your desire to dominate. You are a spoiled child, less from being spoiled in youth than because you spoil yourself. Your weakness is arrogance,... and over confidence...Restrain arrogance and respect the rights of others." Couple that with Levi's description of Arnold's Mars conjunct Uranus aspect which he says denotes a cold, impersonal and strong personality with emotions that are inacccurate and unreliable. He's hard and cruel if it suits his purposes. "While he can be kind in theory and to groups, his is capable of being unkind in personal dealings and of hurting those who love you. Read Paul Brennan's article on him. Who wants a governor whose father was a member of the Nazi Party. I don't. Arnold has a lot in common with George W. Bush. While Arnold's father was a Nazi, Bush's grandfather, Prescott, help fund Hitler and his minnions. Most of you probably know that government officials, under the Trading with the Enemy Act, seized Prescott's stock holdings because, "huge sections of Prescott Bush's empire had been operated on behalf of Nazi Germany and had greatly assisted the German war effort."

It is pointless for me to become so enraged by stupid people at a restaurant. Yet, I can't see any help for this country until its citizens sharpen up. My friend, Max, in Amsterdam, doesn't think it will ever happen. He thinks we're doomed due to our ignorance and our lack of a good educational system. It's possible he is right. If he is, then maybe the smart ones should become ex-patriots.

Many of America's best writers and artists left the country during the last time Uranus was in Pisces, which occurred during the Twenties while Harding and then Coolidge were in office. Many intellectuals were disturbed with an American society that was materialistic, conformist and provincial. Writers that did not become ex-patriots wrote about lives that were "dull, narrow, and warped," in books like Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson. Sinclair Lewis wrote of the shallowness of businessmen in Babbit and H.L. Mencken described President Harding's prose as reminding him of "a string of wet sponges,...of stale bean soup, of college yells, of dogs barking idiotically through endless nights." I wonder what he'd say about George W. Bush's malapropisms.

The Harding administration was corrupt, just like Bush's. The other parallels are rather disturbing.

For example, in the 20's, it was the red scare that frightened people, instead of Middle Eastern terrorists. Individuals thought to be Communists were rounded up with no due process by a young paranoid named J. Edgar Hoover, another low level Capricorn run amuck(like Stalin, like Mao Tse Tung, Pol Pot, Sun Moon) Then there was some guy in Indiana during the '20's that made the mistake of saying, "to hell with the United States." He was murdered and the murderer was later acquitted by a stupid jury that didn't believe in free speech.

Another alarming parallel when Uranus was last in Pisces was Britain's invasion of Iraq and their attempt to civilize it. It didn't work then either. Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it. Never underestimate the stupidity of the Bush White House or the Americans that support him.

I'm sorry I view America now with such disdain. All my life I was proud to be a citizen until Bush stole the White House. Here's what Hunter Thompson says, "The American nation is in the worst condition I can remember in my lifetime, and our prospects for the immediate future are even worse. I am surprised and embarrassed to be a part of the first American generation to leave the country in far worse shape than it was when we first came into it. Our highway system is crumbling, our police are dishonest, our children are poor, our vaunted Social Security, once the envy of the world, has been looted and neglected and destroyed by the same gang of ignorant greed-crazed bastards who brought us Vietnam, Afghanistan, the disastrous Gaza Strip and ignominious defeat all over the world.
