As a follow-up to my last diary entry on the journalistic whitewash of the Bush administration, Joe Conason who writes for The New York Observer, as well as Salon and other magazines comments on a shocking Washington Post article written by John Harris. In the WP article, Harris actually confirms that journalists are whitewashing Boy George's first 100 days in office. Although he doesn't mention the accelerating monopoly of the media outlets, Harris says that the reason for the whitewash and the difference in coverage of the Clinton and Bush White Houses lies in the strength of the right wing think tanks and propaganda machine. In other words, while Clinton was in office, the continual scurrilous screed of the right wing pundits and media outlets produced a big enough racket for middle-of the -road journalists to pay attention to. The left wing's voice is not nearly as loud, nasty, or organized, so no one is paying attention to it. That confirms my notion that the right wing will do anything to hold on to power. They will stop at nothing in their greedy selfish pursuit of all of our resources. In order to halt their hellish hegemony, the Democrats, supported by strong left wing journalism, must create a formidable resistance to the right-wing engineered plan to murder the free press.

There was an opinion piece in the New York Times about the "Monochromatic Media of Latin America". Tina Rosenberg talks about one man's control of the broadcast airwaves in Guatemala but fails to compare the monochromatic media of Latin America to the our own slide into media monopoly.

With Pluto in the 9th House of publishing, religion, and foreign countries in the US chart, it will be difficult to stop our current descent into this closed media quagmire because Pluto is the planet of authoritarianism. But it is also the planet of subversion and as long as the Bush administration and the right wing try to control the media outlets, there will be subversive left wing news, on the internet or in magazines. But there must be a united front behind the Democrats and not a divided press, half of which are apologists for Nader or spoilers like him. No, it doesn't mean that the left wing has to rubber stamp every Democrat proposal but it does mean that when there is a clear difference between the two parties on the issues, we need to be clear about our support and not lukewarm as was the case in the last election that allowed Bush to steal the presidency. It is extremely important that the left wing press act with integrity and strength. There is no strength in Nader or people like him that confuse people with their egocentric and myopic viewpoints, and the left wing press should look at Nader types and their opinions honestly, despite possible angry protests from their readers.

The US being tossed off both the Civil Rights Commission and the Drug Commission at the UN is a result of boy George's administration attempt to Plutoize the rest of the world and the rest of the world doesn't like it. These old, ugly, rich, white American men think they should own the world and everything in it. These retrograde Reaganites apparently inherited Alzheimers from their former boss because they can't tell that the world has been transformed since they were in office and Uranus and Neptune are no longer in conservative Capricorn.

Writing about Pluto, Uranus, and Neptune brings to mind a recent article about the presidential curse mentioned in, of all things, CBN(Christian Broadcasting Network) online. In the article, Prayer Urged Over Zero-Year Curse on White House, the writer mentions the death curse on those presidents elected in a zero year and how prayer is necessary to cancel the curse on boy George predicted by numerous astrologers and "occult oracles". Even though they believe that the curse was cancelled in 1980 when Reagan was shot but not assassinated, they still believe that prayer is necessary. Of course, the curse wasn't cancelled in 1980; it was modified, however, due to the planetary aspect, Jupiter conjunct Saturn, occurring in an air sign rather than a more concrete fire or earth sign. Reagan did die mentally, however, while in office, as the mind and thought processes come under the influence of the Air element. Although this article does reveal the ignorance of the writer as well as the religious right wing in general, it does mention the supposed root of the death curse on the American presidency. After Chief Tecumseh was defeated in the Battle of Tippencanoe in Indiana by General William Henry Harrison in 1811, the Chief's brother, Tenskwatawa, prophesied that Harrison would one day become the Great White Chief and die in office, and every twenty years after another president would succrumb to the same curse. The curse was put on Harrison in retaliation for the white man's rotten treatment of the Native Americans. Will Bush die under the same curse in retaliation for his proposed assault on the environment, including the refusal to sign the Koyoto accords? He has very bad aspects in March of next year.
