Rumsfeld and Lieberman, Two Water Pigs in a Poke: Buyer Beware
Rumsfeld, a Cancer, and Lieberman, a Pisces, are both water signs that have allowed their feelings to get in the way of dispassionate reason.
Water signs are by nature driven by their feelings, but feelings are neither logical or foolproof decision making tools. Feelings come and go and are simply energetic responses to environmental stimulus. They may be accurate or not, depending on the crystal clarity of the individual’s understanding. For unconscious people like Rumsfeld and Bush, who is also a Cancer and relies on his “gut”, feelings can’t be relied upon. An emotional response is not the same as an intuitive response. While emotions are felt energetically like fear, joy, hate, lust, intuition is simply inner knowing. When we experience something intuitively, our feelings are generally not engaged.
In his most recent debacle, Rumsfeld, according to Wikipedia.org, “has come under fire for his remarks at the American Legion’s national convention when he accused critics of the Bush administration’s Iraq and counter terrorism policies of ‘trying to appease a new type of fascism.’ Also Rumsfeld claimed that the administration’s critics have ‘moral and intellectual confusion’ about what threatens the nation’s security and accused them of lacking the courage to fight back. Furthermore, he likened critics of the Bush administration’s war strategy to those who tried to appease the Nazis in the 1930s.”
Low level Water signs have primitive defense systems and often project their own feelings onto other people. It’s obvious that while he is accusing the Democrats and other critics of the Bush administration of appeasing the terrorists as the Nazi’s were appeased in the 1930’s, he is actually trying to deflect criticism from himself and his own authoritarian tendencies as well as his appeasement of Saddam Hussein in December of 1983. It is particularly ironic when we remember the photograph of him shaking hands with Saddam while the dictator was still our boy. It is reminiscent of the photo of British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s 1938 handshake with Adolph Hitler.
Besides being chronically defensive, with his Sun in Cancer conjunct Pluto square Uranus, Rummy is power hungry, emotionally erratic and irascible. The great psychologist, Carl Jung, would say that he is possessed by his anima, which means that he acts out his negative feminine side because he is unconscious of it. The anima is the feminine side of a man while the animus is the masculine side of a woman. We’ve all met men who were peevish, moody, and defensive, noted more for their emotional outbursts than for their logic.
Further his Mercury in Leo gives him a mind that is influenced by the needs of his ego. With his Moon square Venus, Rumsfeld is also known as a social boor and is probably not a big hit with women.
The Zodiac Image Handbook has a very interesting description of Rumsfeld’s Cancer Sun at 18 degrees: This is a degree of ineptitude. People are impudent, full of plans, which are exotic, imaginative and extravagant. They might easily lose their money through gambling, and be ruined by women or unfortunate speculations. This is a degree of danger, as there is a hunger for exotic luxury and peculiar sensations. On a low level these people may be fascinated by the occult, and become drugged or intoxicated by their own primitive sensitivity, mistaking glamour for reality. Their intuition is often impure, and their beliefs are to open to negative influences. Sometimes bizarre and original, but producing little Wisdom.
It’s interesting that the writers, Helene and William Koppejan state that individuals with a planet or rising sign at 18 degrees of Cancer are open to negative influences. Harpers Magazine with its “Events Related to Donald Rumsfeld” says he bought a summer home where Frederick Douglass, the great abolitionist, orator, writer, and slave was beaten 25 times. That summer home must have bad energy. Perhaps Rummy is spending too much time there.
Joe Lieberman is neither as egocentric nor defensive as Rumsfeld, or as absorbed with his own feelings, but with his Pisces Sun in the First House of personality, he does enjoy attention and being in a position of authority. That is part of the problem now with his independent run for Congress. He can’t give up his high position in the government. Yet, with the South Node in Pisces in the First House, this is clearly not the direction (South Node) he is supposed to go in. He should not be on his own (First House) and remain isolated from his Democratic colleagues. However, with Jupiter (exaggerated optimism) in conflict with his North and South Nodes (direction in life), he feels that going it alone (South Node in First House) will work out just fine.
With his North Node in Virgo, he would be better using his high intelligence, Mercury in Aquarius trine Jupiter in Gemini, to be more analytical (Virgo) and less emotional (South Node and Sun in Pisces). What got him into trouble in the first place was his support of the war in Iraq due to his Orthodox Judaism. Emotionally, he is tied to Israel, despite what the right wing government does, and he felt that it would be better for Israel if Saddam Hussein was removed. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been the best for our soldiers or the poor Iraqis. And he has continued to hold onto this belief, despite the blatant lies of the Bush administration.
Saturn, which represents karma and limitation, is now in Leo, the most egoistic sign of the Zodiac. This combination indicates that the more self-centered we are, the more we’ll lose and the less happy we will be. On Election Day, Saturn will be in Lieberman’s Seventh house of relationships and making a bad aspect to his Saturn Mars Uranus conjunction.
Reading about this Saturn Mars Uranus complex in The Combination of Stellar Influences by Reinhold Ebertin we find a perfect description of Lieberman’s present actions: An act of violence, the occasionally wrong use of extraordinary energy, undergoing great efforts and toil. A violent or forced release from tensions or strains. The state of challenging others for a decisive contest or fight. Injury, accident, deprivation of freedom. The tendency to cause unrest within one’s environment, a quarrel, a separation, use of force, interventions in one’s destiny.
This complex being stimulated by Saturn and Jupiter on Election Day should mean a defeat for Lieberman as an independent. However, with voting machine tampering by the Republicans, he may sneak through. Kerry had the better astrological aspects yet Bush remained in office.
There is another discouraging sign that the November election may be a repeat of the election in 2000. Mercury will be retrograding during this time as it did during the Gore Bush fiasco. The Republicans aren’t going down quietly in They’ll fight until their last breath to keep control of the House and Senate. I hope the Democrats have the gumption to smack the hell out of them.
If Lieberman does remain in the Senate due to voter fraud, he’ll have hell to pay with the Democrats. Unfortunately, he’ll also be the Republican’s best boy. For his own good, he should lose and leave gracefully.
