John H. is in his seventies and he used to work for years for the military as a civilian. He won't tell me what he did there, but he does seem to know something about its secrets. Two months ago he told me that the Bush administration and the Pentagon knew where Saddam Hussein was and they were just waiting for the right time to capture him. "When Bush's poll numbers are down and they need a diversion and a victory, they'll trot Hussein out," John said. Then he added with a tone of disgust, "The snakes." John also said that they knew where Bin Laden was too and they'd capture him when they needed to quell the criticism of the critics. I feel that John was right about Saddam. Bush's poll numbers have been down, despite his plastic turkey debacle in Iraq on Thanksgiving. And he needed a victory after his bulging crotch landing on the carrier proved to be a premature ejaculation.
So now all is right with the world, and I wonder if they'll torture Saddam Hussein so he'll tell us all that Bush and Blair were correct about his weapons of mass destruction? I believe that the Bush administration is capable of anything..
I am somewhat relieved that this capture was "accomplished" just before Mercury turns retrograde because it probably means that the response to this action and its consequences will be different than expected. Although it appears on the surface that Bush will benefit, Psychic Chuck says that some people will probably feel sorry for Saddam in his present condition. Some will wonder why Bush felt it was worth killing hundreds of young Americans and thousands of innocent Iraqis to nab an old bum--confused and pathetic.
I think this Saddam capture was also timed to let the wind out of Howard Dean's sails. Among the Democrats, he has been the most vocal of Bush critics about the war in Iraq. Rove probably thinks that Gephardt or Kerry, who supported the war and are less dangerous to Bush than Dean, now look better to the Democratic primary voter. But that won't bear fruit if Dean continues to blast Bush on his dangerous domestic agenda and his stupid diplomacy around the world. And if our men and women continue to die in Iraq, Americans won't give a damn whether Saddam is captured or not. It's obvious from his pictures that the former dictator is not leading a resistance, is not in control of any army. He's just a hopeless, shabby, old man with a beard.
