February 12 Enron's Mess is Our Gain Two things have no limit--the stupidity of man and the mercy of God. George Gurdjieff In the cosmic scheme of things, couldn't the Enron collapse be a good thing? Not for the thousands of employees, of course, who lost their life savings investing in a bogus firm, but I'm thinking about all the rest of us who have been adversely affected by the gross materialism that is presently destroying the planet. Perhaps putting the light on a malignant corporation will help turn the tide against the "greed is good mantra" as sung by George W. Bush Inc. and his pal, Kenny Boy Lay. Materialism (defined in the Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus as 1. the tendency to prefer material possessions and physical comfort to spiritual values and 2. the opinion that nothing exists but matter and its movements and modifications) will destroy the planet if something drastic isn't done to stop it. The destruction of the earth will have a profound and deleterious effect on not only our solar system but will also adversely impact other planets and life forms in our galaxy. To ignore the cosmic connections between Earth and the rest of the universe is selfish, shortsighted, and dangerous. The Enron debacle, as an example of unchecked materialism, is bringing the destructive practices of American business up to the surface. This event is cosmically connected to the Twin Towers tragedy. As a symbol of the negative side of American business, the Twin Towers became an easy target for terrorists. Besides throwing the light on proforma accounting practices, which inflate business profits to attract stockholders, the collapse of Enron also outlines the role of soft campaign money in politics. Enron received a big bang for its bucks to the Bush family and other politicians, Republicans primarily. Not only did the Cheney energy task force follow Kenneth Lay's admonition to not help California with the capping of energy prices, many members of the Bush administration have strong links with Enron. Another outcome of the investigation of Enron may highlight the malignant influence of the Republican Party on American life. No longer the Grand Old Party, the Republicans have created a vicious political institution. Full of hypocrisy and greed, they've become a discredit to America. The Greedy Old Party must be destroyed. If they aren't put out of business by 2004, America will have withdrawn from its world leadership and Europe will have to take over. Now, with another greedy Bush in the White House, a united Europe is providing all of the leadership for the evolution of the planet. Bush and the Republicans are acting as retrograde blockades to our planet's evolution but in the grand cosmic scheme of things, this cannot stand. Bush may think he is a religious man but his actions and ill-conceived notions (axis of evil) tell us that he is a spiritual dunderhead. He hasn't paid a bit of attention to Christ's admonition about the incompatibility of riches and spiritual progress (it's easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into Heaven). His obsessive focus on giving his rich buddies a monumental tax cut when we've already lost all of the Clinton surplus since he's come into office, is creating a significant roadblock to the transformation of our country into an enlightened state. I'm going to let you in on a little Republican secret. George Bush and friends have plenty of money to provide themselves with all the services the government is supposed to be providing for the rest of us. They don't want to pay for the services for the peons. They believe we are stealing their money and deeply resent us as a result. They only want it for themselves and the rest of the Earth can go hang. As long as we keep this understanding in mind, Republican actions are no longer so opaque. If the Democrats don't want to be sidelined and considered irrelevant in the great cosmic scheme of things, they must continue to stand up against this malicious, self-centered, and robotic Republican juggernaut. Not only must Senator Daschle and Congressman Gephardt stand up, Gore and Clinton must add their strong and resonant voices to the chorus. If they don't have the courage to stop the Republicans, the Democrats will be identified with the hated liberals of the Weimar Republic in Germany who failed to stand up effectively against the Nazis.
