Psychic Vera's Latest Outrage

  • Lane McCotter, chosen by John Ashcroft to set up the prison at Abu Ghraib by John Ashcroft has a sleazy past. He administered the Texas Prison system for 18 months during the time the state was under the threat of fines of 1000 dollars per day if they did not make improvements mandated by the court. According to the Mercury News, the Texas legislature had required automatic release of prisoners when capacity hit 95% the limit imposed by the court, but McCotter received heavy criticism when he released thousands of violent convicts. In 1986 McCotter had to resign from the prison system. In 1997 he was forced to vacate the position of Director of the Utah Department of Corrections because a 29 year old schizophrenic died from blood clots forming in his legs, after he was left strapped naked in a chair for 16 hours. He reminds me of John Negropointe, newly appointed Ambassador to Iraq, who's sleazy past includes being the ambassador to Honduras while death squads were roaming the country, slaughtering innocent people. Negropointe said there were no death squads and therefore refused to take action to stop them. I think both McCotter and Negropointe are secret sadists who get fufilled by thoughts and fantasies of torture and death.
  • In my last Diary entry I spoke of the possibility of a theocracy ruling this country after 2008 if Bush is not defeated in 2004. Our government is already on the road to making this prediction come true if something isn't done to stop it. Stephen Pizzao, in his article, "The Christian Taliban," appearing on the Altrenet.org website, includes a list of "Christian" fundamentalist (I put Christian in quotes because there's nothing Christ-like about these people) appointees to positions in the Department of  Health and Human Services, the FDA, and other commissions and advisory committees. For example, Dr. Alma Golden appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of Population Affairs believes abstinence is the only acceptable means of birth control, for teens and unmarried adults. Dr. W. David Hager was appointed to the FDA's Reproductive Health Drugs Advisory Committee. He coauthored a book that believes that readings from scripture as well as prayers are the only acceptable means to relieve symptoms of PMS. Former Congressman,Tom Coburn, appointed co-chair of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV and AIDS tried to coerce codom makers to label their product as ineffective against the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
  • It's not new but Republicans are, apparently, giving more money to Ralph Nader so he can repeat his outrage against another Democratic candidate. Ralph's ego may be instrumental in giving us another four years of the most right wing and dangerous regimes in American history.
  • The appearance of former counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke on 60 minutes on Sunday reinforces our belief that the Bush administration has been an outrage from inauguration day. Although many web articles murmured Clarke's name over the past three years and discussed most of his allegations, it was wonderful and distressing at the same time to hear them on a well-known news program like 60 Minutes. Wonderful because the networks are finally beginning to broadcast the truth, distressing because had Bush and Company heeded Clarke's warnings, 9-11 may never have occurred. Distressing because we went to pre-emptive war, killing thousands of innocent people in Iraq, creating a terrorist cesspool, and bankrupting our government based on a series of fantasies and lies. Today I spoke with a fellow who asked if I'd seen the program. He said he became so enraged he had to live the room for a time. After the segment was over he called his mother, apologizing for denigrating her when she said that we shouldn't go to war in Iraq. He admitted to being bamboozled by the Bushies, believing that Saddam Hussein was a danger to our country when he actually had no WMD's I hope more people have Dan's courage, to wake up and admit to being hoodwinked.
  • Maher Arar, a Syrian Canadian was tortured in a cell 3 feet wide, 6 feet long, and 7 feet high because our government sent him back to Syria where he hadn't lived since he was 17 years. He had no legal representation, was never told what crime he had committed. This is Ashcroft, Bush justice and it might happen to any of us. We must defeat George W. Bush in 2004.
  • Veterans that were tortured by Saddam's Hussein's henchmen in the first Gulf War will be unable to collect the compensation they won in court if the Bush administration has anything to do with it. Bush lackeys are arguing that frozen Iraqi assets are needed for Iraqi reconstruction. They are trying to overturn the court judgment. Paul Brenner, the American administrator in Iraq said that the millions won by veterans of Gulf War One had already been "completely obligated or expended" in reconstruction efforts. The money is no doubt going to firms like Halliburton who are overcharging the government in order to put more money in Dick Cheney's pocket.
    • If the 9-11 tragedy wasn't enough for New Yorkers to cope with, now they've learned from the Inspector General that Bush told the EPA to downplay the effect on the air quality after the disaster. Rep. Jerrold Nadler(D-Manhattan) said he wasn't surprised by the report from the Inspector General because his own testing revealed "high levels of toxic contamination in indoor spaces and apartments in lower Manhattan. We gave this information to the EPA, the EPA hid it and lied about it and continues to this day lying about it apparently at the instructions of George Bush's White House." Aren't you getting sick of Bush creating toxic waste dumps where ever he goes?
    • Joe Conason's Journal of August 11, 2003 has an interesting tidbit about Arnold showing up at a meeting on May 11, 2001 with Kenneth Lay(of Enron fame) after the third wave of Rolling blackouts in California. Now why was Arnold included? Perhaps they were already setting up a plot to mar Davis with the energy crisis as well as seeing whether the bodybuilder would be interested in running for Governor.
    • A new documentary, Afghan Massacre: The Convoy of Death, Part 2 by award-winning Irish filmmaker, Jamie Doran, provides eyewitness testimony that U.S. special forces stood by while thousands of Taliban prisoners were massacred during the war in Afghanistan. This horrifying article about Doran's documentary describes how 3,000 prisoners, after surrendering to allied forces, were imprisoned in sealed containers on trucks for their trip to Sheberghan Prison. When the men started shouting due to lack of air, U.S. allied Afghan soldiers fired into the truck, killing many. Others who survived that, clawed at their fellow prisoners skin and licked perspiration and drank blood from the wounds. If your stomach can stand it, you can read more about this if you go to the article at the Democracy Now website.
    • The Courier-Mail, an Australian newspaper, claims that our "democratic" government is considering turning Guantanamo Bay, where prisoners are being held without due process, into a death camp with an execution chamber. Prisoners would be tried by tribunals. No juries, no appeals. I thought we were living the novel 1984 during the Reagan era. I'm now thinking the 80's were almost benign in comparison to the first decade of the 21st century.
    • On the other hand, there is a striking similarity between the way the Reaganites supported evil regimes and their death squads in Guatemala, Honduras, Argentina, and El Salvador, for example, and the Bush's administration's support of its new friend, President Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan. We've already given this former Soviet country $500 million dollars last year in exchange for setting up bases close to Afghanistan. The Karimov regime, according to the Guardian, which quotes the state department's website, uses "torture as a routine investigation technique." And "according to a forensic report commissioned by the British embassy, in August two prisoners were even boiled to death." "Coincidently", some of the same individuals who helped make foreign policy in the Reagan administration like the weasel Elliott Abrams, who kept making accuses for those evil regimes in Latin America, and John Negropointe, former Ambassador to Honduras, who looked the other way while death squads were rampaging through that country, are back in power. Abrams is now special envoy to the Middle East while Negroponte is Ambassador to the UN. I feel so much safer with them in important diplomatic positions. Don't you? Maybe, eventually, we'll destroy Uzbekistan when we don't like the dictator anymore, just as we've done to Iraq. After all, didn't Hussein like watching while his enemies were thrown into vats of acid. Not much different than boiling your enemies, is it?
      • Washington Monthly online just published an interesting article on former Education Secretary and Drug Czar Bill Bennett's compulsive gambling. In "The Bookie of Virtue", Joshua Green claims that Bennett, referred to as the hot air buffoon in an article in Rolling Stone several years ago, has racked up at least 8 million dollars in gambling losses. Although Bennett says that he has come out about even, a casino source that Green interviewed just laughed after hearing Bennett's claim. The hypocritical Leonine blowhard has written several books chastising the public for their immoral attitudes, with a diatribe against Bill Clinton's sexual habits titled The Death of Outrage. The hypocrisy and hubris of these sleazy puritans is really getting me down. Oh well, karma is coming. Pride goeth before a fall. I found two quotes from the book Jesus and Buddha, the Parallel Sayings, that are apropo here. The first is from the Gospel of Luke, 6:41-42, Jesus is speaking, of course: Why do you see the speck in your neighbor's eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye. Or how can you say to your neighbor, "Friend, let me take the speck out of your eye," when you yourself do not see the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor's eye. The second is from the Buddhist scripture the Udanavarga 27.1: The faults of others are easier to see than one's own; the faults of others are easily seen, for they are sifted like chaff, but one's own faults are hard to see. This is like the cheat who hides his dice and shows the dice of his opponent, calling attention to the other's shortcomings, continually thinking of accusing him.
      • Sleazy Dyncorp may get the rent-a-cop contract to go into Iraq. As formerly addressed in this column(scroll down for Dyncorp's name), this wretched company has been accused of sex-trafficing of women and children in Bosnia-Herzegovina as well as its employees having sex with 12-15 year old girls. First we destroy Iraq and kill many women and children and then we send in some scumbags who set up a sex traffic operation to take advantage of the survivors. Don't you like how the Bush administration works? And Dyncorp is based in Fort Worth Texas.  What a surprise.
      • There have been so many outrages since Bush started this horrible war that I can't possibly keep up with them, but today there was an article in the Miami Herald.com that I just had to discuss here. An Army chaplain in Iraq offers thousands of dirty soldiers a bath in his 500 gallon pool of water only if they agree to be baptized. "It's simple. They want water. I have it, as long as they agree to get baptized." What about Jews fighting in Iraq or Moslems? The article doesn't say if they get a special dispensation from this turkey who's mascarading as a Christian. He justifies the war by quoting the New Testament: Give unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God. Of course that quote has nothing to do with war. What ever happened to Christ's admonition to Love your enemies? These Fundamentalists don't read the Four Gospels very often. If they did, there would be none of these wicked opportunistic wars. Jesus Christ is just too difficult for most people to follow. Love your neighbors and your enemies, forgive those that persecute you, it's easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to go to heaven. No, Pastor Llano, God doesn't support the United States in this war just because you think so or George Bush says so. You are both seriously deluded.
      • If you want an excellent rundown of U.S. mollycoddling of Saddam Hussein under the Reagan/Bush administration and the Bush/Quayle administration, which led to our present fiasco, go to Republicons.org's printed transcript of Al Gore's speech delivered to the Center for International Policy in September of 1992. I'm really sick of the Bush family's arrogant, selfish, self-absorbed behavior. How many thousands have died under their despotic rule?
      • Bush has named David Caprara, who is head of Sun Moon's American Family Coalition, as the director of VISTA. The entire Bush family has been playing footsie with the dangerous nutty Sun Moon for sometime now. Soon Moon will be appointed to some important government post and he can work along side other criminals in the Bush administration like John Negropointe, Otto Reich,Elliot Abrams, and John Poindexter.
      • In the February 3rd edition of The Nation there is an outrageous article on the disruption of global women's rights conferences by U.S. delegates handpicked by the Bush administration. Writer Jennifer Block outlines the chaos created when Bushies tried to sabotage the "hard fought concensus built throughout the past decade on social justice, and human rights, especially women's rights." The regressive Bush administration's policies on sexual and reproductive health first appeared on the world stage within hours of his inauguration in 2001. He revived the "global gag rule" which forces humanitarian organizations to shut-up about abortion as an option in family planning. Soon after he depleted the UN population fund of 12.5% of its budget, and refused to give 3 million dollars to the World Health Organization's Human Reproduction Program. The 33 million he took away from the UN population fund is now being earmarked for domestic sexual education that primarily supports abstinence until marriage. I particularly like this policy coming from a man that at one time was almost as much of a sexual libertine as Bill Clinton. At the recent Fifth Asian and Pacific Population Conference, Bush's delegates objected to "consistent condom use" to prevent the spread of AIDS and "safe abortion" where it is legal.
      • The Press Democrat reported on January 12, 2003, that the Bush administration has been getting so much flak for the dangerous and deteriorating situation in North Korea that they've decided to blame the Clinton administration. What a surprise! Even though the Clinton administration had North Korea well under control, Bush has to once more cast aspersions on Clinton, who Bush despises almost as much as he loathes the dictator of North Korea Kim Jong-il (he actually said, "I loathe Kim Jong-il). That comment along with including North Korea in Bush's infamous Axis of Evil is freaking out the North Korean government. So badly are the North Koreans disturbed, they sent their diplomats to New Mexico to talk to former Energy Secretary in the Clinton administration and now Governor of New Mexico, Bill Richardson. That must have really pissed off the Bushies. The Press Democrat article, "Clinton Pact Faulted in N. Korea Crisis," says that the North Koreans believe that Bush's insane policy is primarily motivated by "Bush's desire to do the opposite of what his predecessor had done on foreign policy." An unnamed source was quoted as saying,"They think the Bush people have closed the door on the them just because Clinton had opened it." And hey the Koreans are probably right. Bush is so full of stupid arrogance that he believes that everything the hated Clinton did should be cast aside, even if this insane anti-Clinton policy threatens the whole world.
      • That fantastic well-seasoned reporter, Helen Thomas, created an outrage for the Bush administration and a golden moment for us while she was confronting Press Secretary, Ari Fleischer on War with Iraq. Check it out.
      • Trent Lott has tried to punish all of us for his recent ouster from his post of Majority Leader of the Senate by nominating John Lehman to the 9-11 investigation commission, by passing ex-senators Wayne Rudman and Gary Hart, both experts on terrorism. Former Navy Secretary under Ronald Reagan, Lehman is guilty of staging a massive cover-up of a disgusting Naval pedophile ring discovered in Coos Bay Oregon in 1982.
      • 2002

      • More information supportin Mark Crispin Miller's contention that Bush is a Sociopath like Nixon appears on the website rush awards. "Bush has also been accused by Professor Bradford Lee, of the elite Naval War College in Newport, RI of having participated in cruel, sadistic, and homoerotic fraternity hazing practices back in college. According to the professor, Bush chased him, spanked him, and made him bend over a desk with his pants down while he was branded like a pig with a triangle-shaped branding iron. He still has the scars, physical and emotional to this day."
        • The following is from Online Journal. See how it connects to the December First journal entry: "If we believe the psychiatrists, a sign of a future serial killer is a child who delights in torturing and killing animals. George W., as a child, did exactly that. In a May 21, 2000, New York Times' puff piece about the values Bush gained growing up in Midland, Texas, Nicholas D. Kristoff quoted Bush's childhood friend Terry Throckmorton: "'We were terrible to animals,' recalled Mr. Throckmorton, laughing. A dip behind the Bush home turned into a small lake after a good rain, and thousands of frogs would come out. 'Everybody would get BB guns and shoot them,' Mr. Throckmorton said. 'Or we'd put firecrackers in the frogs and throw them and blow them up.'" On Sept. 12, 2000, Baltimore Sun reporter Miriam Miedzian wrote, "So when he was a kid, George W. enjoyed putting firecrackers into frogs, throwing them in the air, and then watching them blow up. Should this be cause for alarm? How relevant is a man's childhood behavior to what he is like as an adult? And in this case, to what he would be like as president of the United States."
        • Two outrages today, and on Thanksgiving. I'm not even going to mention the bombing of the Israeli hotel in Kenya and the probability that Arial Sharon has the lock on the election that's coming up in Israel. The number one outrage involves Henry Kissinger being assigned to head the terror investigation. Bush wasn't going to have an investigation until so many families of victims put up such a fuss. Putting Kissinger in to guard the hen house is a sure sign that Bush wants the whole mess covered up. Kissinger is a war criminal and is wanted in several countries for war crimes. See what David Corn says in the Nation or what Christopher Hitchens says. He wrote a book indicting Kissinger. Kissinger reminds me of one of those vapid Nazis who committed unspeakable atrocities and when accused acts totally blameless. Evil hides in the empty and the mundane. The second outrage involves the environment once again. Bush has proclaimed war on the environment by cutting back on wildlife protection in national forests in order to allow more mining and logging.
        • The Bushies asked a federal claims court to seal documents concerning hundreds of claims that a mercury based preservative, thimerosal, used in vaccines has caused autism and other neurological problems in children. Lawyers for the thousand or more familes were outraged.  Further insult to injury occurred when a provision was inserted into the homeland security bill that protects Eli Lilly, thimerosal's manufacturer, from lawsuits over the preservative. The outrages just keep coming dont they. Everyday there is something new and I can't keep up with them all. When will it all stop? When George Bush and the Republicans no longer control the government.
        • The Wall Street Journal online reports that Chief Justice Rehnquist's daughter, Janet is in big trouble down at the Department of Health and Human Services where's she is working as the Inspector General. Nineteen non-political employees, including five or six deputies have retired, quit, or been transferred since she took office fifteen months ago. Apparently, they didn't like her explosive management style. She also had an unloaded gun in her office which she pointed at a target of a menacing assailant. As a Bush appointee she quickly eased antifraud measures as soon as assuming her position as Inspector General and emphasized the altogether familiar "voluntary compliance" policy. The Bushies love "voluntary compliance", which simply means that the government will advise companies what to do, but they don't have to follow the advice if they don't want to.
        • Excerpts from Bush's conversation with Bob Woodward are printed today(November 20) at the independent.co.uk website. My favorite is: "I'm the commander. I do not need to explain why I say things. That's the interesting thing about being president. Maybe somebody needs to explain to me why they say something, but I don't feel like I owe anybody an explanation." Bush's speech is generally so confusing to everyone, including himself, he probably can't give anyone an explanation for anything he says. I know I shouldn't be surprised by Bush's dangerous arrogance, but I am. Isn't it awful to have such a small-minded man as president?
        • Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart called Mohammed a "sex deviant" and a pervert, demanding that Muslim students in the US be expelled. "We ought to tell every other Muslim living in this nation that if you say one word, you're gone," he said. As you may recall Swaggart was possessed by a demon awhile back and had been involved with a prostitute. Some said he was really interested in her young daughter. Evangelist Oral Roberts had to exorcise the hypocritical pervert Swaggart. Meanwhile, Pat Robertson is fanning the flames of hatred between Muslims and Jews by saying that the followers of Islam were worse than the Nazis.
        • In an update to the stupid Falwell remarks about Muhammad (see below), the mullahs in the recent Pakistan elections got a lot more votes than they would have had if Falwell hadn't condemned the Prophet. Besides Falwell's remarks, Rev. Jerry Vine labeled Mohammed a pedophile, and Pat Robertson described him as an, "absolute wild-eyed fanatic...a robber and brigand, a killer." Billy Graham's son Franklin said that Islam is an evil religion. Ebrahim Moosa, co-director of Duke University's Center for the Study of Muslim Networks said, "Anybody who's trying to build bridges between thse cultures--scholars, notprofit organizations, government officials on both sides--all their work is imemediately torpedoed by these kinds of statements."
        • Jerry Falwell must be one of the dumbest men in public life, next to George W. Bush and Pat Robertson. On 60 Minutes last week, he proclaimed that Mohammed was a terrorist. On October 12, a protest against Falwell in India led to Hindu-Moslem rioting in which five people were killed. Falwell has apologized for his most recent remarks, but that won't make a lick of difference to Iranian clerics who have issued a fatwa, calling for his death. Falwell is an afflicted Leo who obviously opens his mouth and inserts his foot in order to attract attention to himself. This is a very simple-minded man whose obvious feelings of inadequacy lead him to say or do anything that attracts public notice. Falwell has an overwhelming Leonian desire to be recognized because with Saturn in Aquarius making an opposition to his Sun, he was probably ridiculed and treated with disrespect by his father when he was a child. But with his South Node in the same sign of his Sun, Leo, he must learn to be more objective and start to shy away from public displays to gain self-worth. Further, he has Chiron, which symbolizes the kind of wounds we bear in life, in Gemini, the sign of communication. An undisciplined Gemini often blurts out anything that comes to mind, unlike the rest of us who try to censor our more embarrassing or unpleasant thoughts. His latest verbal peccadillo might attract danger this time. The fatwa is no joke. The planet of aggression, Mars, will be moving into the sign of Libra tomorrow, October 15, and Jerry will have his Mars Return mid November. If I had Falwell's Mars in Libra making an opposition to Uranus and a square to Pluto in my birthchart, I'd make myself real scarce in the next six weeks. This is a violent configuration. But ten to one, Jerry knows nothing about astrology because he thinks it's an instrument of the Devil, and he won't make himself scarce enough in the future to ward off another fatwa,if this one doesn't bear fruit. Jerry Falwell is another embarrassing American like George W. Bush. Neither have a clue about anything beyond their own circumscribed little world. Aren't we all sick of embarrassing and dangerous American dumbos grabbing world-wide attention and putting us in harms way?
        • According to the Guardian, in March when 2000 of our soldiers assaulted Al Queda near the town of Gardez, they were ambushed. The plan was leaked to the enemy beforehand. Helicopters and planes were not able to reinforce our troops due to the strength of enemy fire. Our personnel had been sent in by commanders who had left their own artillery and sleeping bags behind. Eight of our troops were killed while 70 were injured. Is this idiocy due to Generals like Tommy Franks--he sits in Florida, drinking cocktails all day? Or to Commanders-in-Chiefs like George W. Bush, who spent his time in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War snorting coke, getting drunk and running after women?
        • Arianna Huffington writes about Jeb Bush's hypocrisy in dealing with drug addicts in his state of Florida. While his daughter, Noelle, gets the best treatment available for her drug addiction, despite being found with a rock of crack cocaine while at a drug rehab center, Bush has cut the budgets of drug treatment programs in his state. He also negated a proposal to send 10,000 non-violent drug offenders to treatment facilities instead of to jail. But this fits perfectly with rich Republican philosophy. Arianna used to be a rich Republican so she shouldn't be surprised by the rationale behind Jeb Bush's actions. He, after all, pays for his daughter's treatment. He doesn't rely on the state for funding so he doesn't think anyone else should. Like all Republicans, he doesn't want his taxes to pay for someone else's services when he is rich enough to pay for his own. No matter that he didn't make his own money the hard way, or pull himself up by his bootstraps. You'd think that he would develop a little humility in lieu of his daughter's drug addiction but, of course, he's won't blame himself. My daughter, Psychic Audrey, after being told about Noell Bush's drug problems and recalling George W.'s alcoholism and his twins problems with booze, commented that the Bush family, no matter its wealth, acts like white trash. Worse, I said. At least white trash has an accuse. Arianna also mentioned the recent DEA raid on a medical marijuana club in Santa Cruz. They destroyed the pot garden, handcuffed sick patients(including a paraplegic!), and absconded with the director and founder, Valerie Corral. Don't you just love that Ashscroft? Spending his time retaliating against medical marijuana supporters, right-to-die advocates and spending $8000+ covering up the nude breasts of a Justice Department statue, instead of following up on warnings about terrorist attacks before 9-11 gives me such a feeling of relief that he's still at the helm of the Justice Department.
        • According to an article by Rick Weiss in the Washington Post, the Bush administration is disbanding committees in the Department of Health and Human Services that don't fit in with his philosophical perspectives. Bush apparently didn't approve of a committee that was expanding the FDA's role in regulating the genetic testing industry. Another committee that was checking the effects of environmental chemicals on human health was notified that most of its members will be replaced. One replacement is a scientist who was used by the Pacific Gas and Electric's defense in the case prosecuted by Erin Brockovich in California. How about that for a fox guarding the hen house? A third committee that will be disbanded or its members replaced is the Clinton created National Human Research Protections Advisory Committee which protects human subjects in research. According to Weiss, "Some sources suggested the committee had angered the pharmaceutical industry or other research enterprises because of its recommendations to tighten up conflict of interest rules and impose new restrictions on research involving the mentally ill."
        • Economist Paul Klugman in the NY Times writes that a Wall Street Journal article confirms what many of us already knew about the California Energy Crisis: market manipulation by energy companies(like the ones that helped Dick Cheney with his energy plan) played an important part in the energy debacle in the state. We all know that's why Cheney refuses to release the minutes of those meetings. He will be directly implicated in the crash of California energy. Klugman also mentions that a chief evil-doer behind the rape of Enron employees and stock holders was Cheney's handpick choice for the Secretary of the Army, Thomas White. Most of us knew that White had been employed by Enron before he joined the Bush administration, but I didn't realize that he sent an incriminating email which said, "Close a bigger deal. Hide the loss before the 1Q." This was in response to information that Enron was losing millions of dollars in their Ponzi scheme. By hiding the losses, White was able to sell his stocks to naive buyers like the Florida state workers who invested over $300 million in Enron just months before it collapsed. Another small postscript to Cheney's Halliburton tenure was the confiscation of employee's pensions after a division was closed. Cheney was treated differently, of course, when he resigned as CEO. They changed the terms of his contract so he could received full retirement benefits as well as other perks. Like Jack Welsh, he should return them.
        • George Bush enjoys having photo-ops with heroes and likes to leave them crying for help when he cuts their government funding. He appeared with the miners who were pulled to safety after the mine collapse in Pennsylvania and then wanted to cut government funds for improved safety in the mines. He praised the heroes of 9-11, of course. There's even a postal stamp commemorating them. But when it came time to approve funding for better communications systems for the New York fire department, he refused. The president of the International Association of Firefighters said, "Don't lionize our fallen brothers in one breath, then stab us in the back." Lastly, Bush has reneged on a promise to the American Legion to support increased monies for veterans health care. He wants to keep all the government money for himself and his friends. Cut our services so he can cut taxes. Our president is a sick son-of-a-bitch.
        • Virginia based DynCorp has a U.S. government contract in Bosnia to hire and train UN police forces. Kathryn Bolkovac went to work for Dyncorp in June of 1999 and now claims that Dyncorp employees have been involved in sex-trafficing of women and children in Bosnia-Herzegovina. She was fired when she blew the whistle on this scummy corporation. She brought suit against Dyncorp, the case being heard in a British tribunal, which found Dyncorp guilty of malfeasance in dismissing her. Another employee, Ben Johnson, was also fired when he reported white slave trafficing of women and children, as well as middle-age men having sex with 12-15 year olds. He had videotape of a DynCorp supervisor having sex with two women, while one of them was saying no. Further allegations include the selling of young women hourly, daily or permanently. Isn't it grand to know that your taxes are helping to pay top dollar to these sleazy perverts at Dyncorp?
        • According to an article in LA Weekly.com, LA Times community reporter, Brian Robin was fired because he sent a critical e-mail to Bakersfield, CA Congressman, Bill Thomas. Robin got tired of Thomas' repetition of the Republican party mantra of blaming corporate criminality on Bill Clinton. Unfortunately for Robin, he sent the email from the L.A. times email address. I remember Bill Thomas as a teacher when I was attending Bakersfield Jr. College in the late '60's. He was skinny then; he isn't now and consequently, he doesn't look like the same person. I knew he was a conservative Republican so I didn't sign up for one of his classes. Instead, I took political science classes from Mr. McCall, the brother of the moderate Republican Governor of Oregon at the time. When I hear Bill Thomas pontificate today, I thank my lucky stars that I made the right choice by not choosing him as a teacher.
        • God says, "Vengeance is mine" according to the Apostle Paul in Romans, 12:19. Despite Paul's further admonition to "Never pay back evil for evil" and "do not seek revenge", Supreme Court Justice Scalia, a member of the Catholic faith, believes that Paul says, "that government...derives its moral authority from God. It is the 'minister of God" with powers to 'revenge', to 'execute wrath', including even wrath by the sword.' In other words capital punishment is fine since the government derives its authority from God and God thinks state executions are groovy. Further, according to a Washington Post editorial, God, Death and Justice Scalia, the judge is highly critical of the High Court's abolishment of the death penalty for crimes other than murder. Maybe Scalia is a closet reconstructionist "Christian". Reconstructionists are trying to bring back Old Testament Law because they can't follow Jesus' rules: Love your neighbor as yourself and Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hurt you..." Reconstructionists would like to have homosexuals and adulterous women put to death, as well as soothsayers (psychics and astrologers) as they were centuries ago in Old Testament Israel. Whether he's a reconstructionist or not, Scalia is a degenerate and a danger to democracy. Impeach the bastard.
        • Franklin Graham, the son of Billy and the CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association recently condemned Islam as a religion of intolerance and violence. Instead of distinguishing between the tenets of the religion and practices of countries governed by Islamic Law, Graham lumps all of Islam in the same miserable pot. Apparently he knows nothing about Sufism, which is the mystical side of Islam and speaks very clearly and beautifully about love. Graham's condemnation of Islam as a religion is like those who condemn all of Christianity when they see the actions of ugly hypocritical evangelists like Pat Robertson, or believe that Christianity is based on intolerance and violence after visiting the Balkans where thousands of Catholics and Orthodox Christians have slaughtered each other. Or how about those that denigrate all of Judaism because they don't like the Zionist government in Israel? Ibrahim Hooper, communications director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations said in response to Graham's invective, "Mainstream political leaders and religious figures must speak out against the growing demonization of Islam by extremist right-wing commentators and by representatives of the evangelical Christian community." Unfortunately, the human race has often pitched religious tenets into the dust bin because they are too difficult to follow. To be a good Jew, Moslim, Christian, or Buddhist, you have to look out for your neighbor and live your life as selflessly as possible. Many of us are too ego-centric to do this. And it doesn't matter which religion we were raised in. Everyone knows that so-called Christians have been some of the most intolerant and brutal of the religious proselytizers down through the centuries.
        • Talk about an outrage. Try perusing the Chickenhawk Database. It has a list of politicians, pundits, and other officials who love war but never served in the military. As the New Hampshire Gazette website points out: isn't it interesting that most of the chickenhawks are Republicans?
        • A process server for Judicial Watch tried to serve V.P. Cheney with a complaint filed against him on behalf of Halliburton oil shareholders. A security officer at the White House would not accept the papers for Cheney and threatened the server with arrest if he dropped them off. The chairman of Judicial Watch, Larry Klayman said, "We have served many a lawsuit on Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and Hillary Clinton when they were in the White House. The Clinton White House accepted the papers. Never before have our process servers been threatened with arrest. If this Bush-Cheney White House is serious about corporate corruption and responsibility, it would not allow the Vice President to improperly hide behind White House security to evade service of process in the Halliburton securities fraud litigation, and it would not threaten the process server with arrest." Since the Democrats in the White House responded so much better to Klayman's lawsuits than the Republicans have, maybe Klayman should not vote for Republicans again.
        • John Dendahl, Chairman of the Republican Party in New Mexico, told reporters that a representative from the G.O.P. asked him to offer the Green Party at least $100,000 to run candidates in two congressional districts. Apparently, the Green Party didn't accept the offer, saying, "The Green Party will not be used as a support group for the Democratic Party nor as a battering ram for the Republican Party." The Republicans didn't have to offer Ralph Nader a dime. He was a battering ram all on his own. He still doesn't get that Al Gore would have been a much better president than George Bush. Sometimes I think Nader is mentally retarded.
        • Journalist Nat Hentoff, reporting for the Village Voice, writes that Bush opposes an amendment to the Sudan Peace Act that was supported in the House by a vote of 422 to 2 last year. The Bachus amendment (Republican Spenser Bachus of Alabama) prohibits foreign companies from raising money in the U.S., and trading their securities on the stock exchange while these businesses are involved with the Sudanese government in oil development. Why is this amendment so important? It is attempting to stop the slave traffic and atrocities of black Christians and animists in south Sudan, where the Khartoum government in league with foreign corporations is making huge profits from the oil fields. According to John Eibner of Christian Solidarity International, "over 70 percent of females over the age of 10 have been raped by their masters. More than 90 percent of all freed slaves claim to have been beaten frequently. Forced conversion to Islam is commonplace and many said they witnessed executions of disobedient slaves." It's obvious that Bush's "Christianity" is not. Oil is Bush's god.
        • Bush continues to be the flunky for the religious right by threatening to cut off millions of dollars to a U.N. family planning program. His religious nut friends claim that the program supports forced abortions even though an investigative team made of people from his own administration went to China on a fact finding mission and concluded that the allegations were untrue. Bush, who never had any sort of goal in life before 9-11, has aligned himself with the religious right because he believes that he and they are fighting evil-doers. Little do they realize that instead of opposing the Devil, they are actually in bed with him. Satan has been a close friend of the Bush family ever since Prescott Bush helped fund the Nazis before World War II and the religious right wing hasn't been close to Jesus in years.
        • According to the Washington Times (owned by Sun Moon)an Environmental Protection Agency document claims that the dumping of toxic sludge in the Potomic River protects fish. The EPA under the Bush administration says the fish will stay away from the polluted area and escape fishermen trying to catch them.
        • John Negropointe, former Ambassador to Honduras(under Reagan)and enabler of Death Squads there, and present Ambassador to the UN, voted against extending the time for the peacekeepers to remain in Bosnia. The Bush administration doesn't want to go along with the program because they're afraid U.S. soldiers might be tried for war crimes in the newly formed international criminal court. William Pace, head of the Coalition for a Criminal Court said, "History, I believe will record the actions of the US administration of President George W. Bush to wreck UN peacekeeping and the international criminal court as one of the most shameful lows in global US leadership."
        • Conservative pundit, Ann Coulter, recently stuck her foot in her mouth once again when she likened morning show host, Katey Couric, to Eva Braun, Hitler's paramour. She also compared Couric to Nazi Josef Goebbels. In her new screed, Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right, the blond bitch apparently believes that Couric blamed the death of Matthew Shepard on Christian evangelicals. If the foo shits...
        • The May issue of Washington Monthly reports that spy and traitor Robert Hanssen searched computer databases for confidential information on Hillary and Chelsea Clinton on more than twenty occasions. It's a good chance that Hanssen was doing the searches for the sour right wing columnist and CNN Crossfire pundit, Robert Novak. Novak admitted that Hanssen was his primary source for a 1997 column accusing Janet Reno and the Justice Department of a campaign scandal cover-up. Apparently, they both shared an interest in the Clinton scandals as well as membership in the right-wing secret Catholic lay society, Opus Dei. Don't you feel secure knowing that a well known conservative pundit gets his information from such nefarious individuals? I certainly do.
        • According to Common Dreams Progressive Newswire, Otto Reich (Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs) was named to the Board of Visitors at the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Operation(WHISC), aka SOA, School of Americas. WHISC or SOA as it was formerly known is a combat training school for Latin American soldiers. It has a bloody history of training well known torturers and murderers to wreck havov in Central and South America. In 1996 the Pentagon was forced to release SOA training manuals that advocated torture, extortion and execution. School of the Americas(SOA) Watch founder, Fr. Roy Bourgeois, says about the change in name, "It's a new name, but the same shame." Or same old shit, different name. Otto Reich first gained notoriety as head of the Office of Public Dilomacy during the Reagan administration. The OPD was the instigator of an illegal anti-Sandinista campaign, which tried to influence the American public to support Reagan's agenda for Central America. As Ambassador to Venezuela, Reich helped known terrorist, Orlando Bosch, get into the US. Bosch fired a bazooka at a freighter in Miami and was convicted. He also was involved in the bombing of a Cuban jet, killing 73 people. More recently, while working for the Bush administration, Reich advised Pedro Carmona--the businessman that failed an attempted military coup in Venezuela. Aren't we tired of supporting murderous Latin American politicos yet? How long will it take to get rid of this hellish school for terrorists? In 2001 Congress defeated an amendment to close it by a ten vote margin.
        • House Republicans support a bill that gives U.S. forces the right to invade the Hague in the Netherlands (future home of the International Criminal Court), if any of our soldiers are being prosecuted for war crimes. Congressman Tom Delay's bill would further bar military aid to countries that ratify the treaty, prevent U.S. soldiers from taking part in peacekeeping missions that could potentially put them under the court's aegis. Only one other country shares the Republican's view of the International Criminal Court--Libya. I guess politicians like Delay and Bush are terrified that they might be tried for war crimes if our soldiers are suspected of torturing and mutilating people. After all, if Harry Kissinger could be tried for war crimes, they might be next.
        • Libraries can no longer guarantee that what you read won't be common knowledge to the FBI, CIA and other government agencies. According to an article in the Washington Post, a survey conducted in January and February revealed that 85 libraries had been asked for information on borrowers. This practice, curtailed in the 1970's out of fear of governmental abuse, is now legal again under the Patriot Act signed by the president in October. Under a more Democratic administration it might not be quite so worrisome, but under Attorney General Ashcroft, it is downright loathesome. First it will be suspected terrorists tagged for what they read, next it might be anyone who consistently and publically criticizes the present administration. Finally, if Ashcroft had his way, any library patron that read books on homosexuality , prochoice, how to grow marijuana, or how to erect and delineate your own horoscope would be put on a government list. Remember Ashcroft and a Handmaid's Tale.
        • Bush praised the Southern Baptist Convention for its tradition of tolerance while the former president of that organization called Muhammed a demon-possessed pedophile. I don't suppose the Moslems are too happy about George's judgment. Remember he termed Arial Sharon a man of peace. This White House numbskull does not have the Christian gift of discernment, that's for sure. Another stupidity is the reverend Jerry Falwell, who called the Rev. Vines, this former president of the Southern Baptists, "my friend" and last week defended him on CNN's Crossfire. Ibraham Hooper, spokesman for the Council of American-Islamic relations said that "Muslims see the prophet Muhammad as the ultimate example of moral behavior, so they really see this kind of attack on the prophet as gut-churning. If Southern baptists want to preach love, why does it come out in such hate-filled terms."
        • Christie Todd Whitman, head of the EPA, did not review an important report on global warming that was issued by her office until she read about it in the newspaper. Whitman seemed to be distancing herself from the report by her own researchers that stated unequivocally that driving cars and burning coal contributed significantly to global warming. Apparently her corruption is now complete. In the beginning of her tenure she was quite concerned about this issue as well as others, but Bush must have told her to lick his boots or else. So everyone is back to square one as far as greenhouse gases are concerned. All the big corporations will be advised of their danger and asked to voluntarily cut back on emissions. I'm sure they will. All BIG ENERGY is concerned about our welfare, don't you think?
        • Bush's earlier support for an international treaty banning discrimination against women has faltered. Apparently, Attorney General Ashcroft agrees with the Taliban who complained that the 1980 treaty imposes sexual equality. Can't have that. So, Ashcroft is going to spend years reviewing it. After all, we can't support something that forces other countries to stop killing and mutilating women. You'd think Ashcroft would have something better to do with his time, but as you recall he's the authoritarian bozo who, despite former FBI director's Louis Freeh's call for more funds for counterterrorism , cut the monies before 9-11. He wanted to go after medical marijuana in California and physician assisted suicide in Oregon, and spend tax payers money on draping nude statues, instead. And while he could spend time going after Florida counties that were guilty of abrogating voters rights in Election 2000, he'd prefer to lead prayers at the Justice Department, sing hymns that he wrote, and scare the stock market talking about lethal dirty bombs. How long will we have to put up with this RFI (religious fundamentalist idiot)?
